good riri...

Got the idea to make a movie about Soe Hok Gie is great moved by Miles Production, after i watched the movie i was amazed by what Riri Reza done with the vizualitation, approach and the treatment of the movie.

According to some people that i met, Gie movie is a boring movie, slow story telling, there were some parts of the original Gie's life story is missing and it has a problem with the language because when Gie's era, the term they used is not GWE yet which is slank word for I/Me.

Well, some how what my friends told me about that movie is right and that what i was thinking while i watched that movie, but when i tried to really look inside the movie i found a lot of interesting stuffs. Let me bring you to that movie again and let us see from my point of view.

Let's talk about Gie first, Gie is a person who had a rebel heart, had a sharp critical mind, always against any capitalism act, believed with what he thinks is right, idealist, loved to learn other country progress by watching a movie at his school, love to read, love to write, a quite person, love to hike a mountain, etc. When you red above. you found a lot of personality descriptions right? and i did not write all of his other personalities iam to lazy to write it all, but you know what? Riri made that possible. Try you watch that movie again you will find that Gie (Nicholas saputra)within 2 hours represent all original Gie's personalities. What Riri wanted to show is how to make people know who is Soe Hok Gie, he tried to introduce Gie and not only what he has done. I never know that there was a person named Soe Hok Gie, honestly my parents never mentioned about his name even my school teachers, but when the movie produced then i know who is Gie, what kind of person he is and what he was doing then.

The movie did use slow story telling, slow transition and it made people feel bored. But again, the film maker try to bring us and to make understand the audience that Soe Hok Gie lived during 1960's when dark era happened in jakarta, when Soekarno did try to cooperate with the communist party and when the country political transition happened, Riri used Cinema Verite/Direct Cinema to visualize it. if you see Soe Hok Gie's life, nothing special happened to him, nobody killed him unlike other political activists and he had bad love life, he was only a writer, he fought the capitalist with his wittings. So what Riri did with the visualization is right, we can not put fast story telling for an individual subject specially biographical story Ex. JFK, Gandhi, etc.

But be franked i found a lot of technical mistakes, well i understand if they had a financial problem to support the movie, but how can they used the same car in different settings hahaha so funny, and there are some technical mistakes in the movie but i won't discuss it here. For now I’m only responding for those notions out there which only know how to criticize the Gie Movie. Which if they give that movie to other movie maker, who knows the movie will turn more immaterial movie or probably they will wrapped it like Mission Impossible movie or like Harry Potter so it won't be bored anymore.

All and all i would give a heads up with 8 points for Gie Movie.

FILM: How It All Started!

FILM, menurut beberapa para ahli adalah sebuah salah satu medium komunikasi, ada juga yang mengatakan bahwa film adalah sarana sesorang untuk bisa keluar sementara dari kehidupan kenyataan dan juga menurut saya pribadi FILM adalah seperti lukisan yang dibuat oleh seorang pelukis sesuai dengan idealisme yang ia pegang.

Banyak orang datang ke gedung bioskop hanya untuk menonton FILM yang baru di release baik FILM import maupun produksi dalam negri. Tidak sedikit juga orang yang tergila-gila oleh bintang-bitang FILM yang memainkan role nya dengan baik. Namun, yang tidak banyak orang tau adalah bagaimana FILM itu ada, bagaimana proses terciptanya audio-visual atau motion-picture itu sendiri.

FILM tercipta pada tahun oleh karena sebuah taruhan sebesar US$25,000! Pada tahun 1877 uang sebesar itu adalah uang yang sangat banyak jumlahnya.

Edward Muybridge, seorang berkebangsaan inggris yang berpindah kewarganegaraan menjadi warga Amerika Serikat harus membayar taruhan itu. pada tahun 1877 balapan kuda adalah salah satu tontonan yang paling digemari di Amerika, beberapa orang berpendapat bahwa ketika kuda berlari ada saatnya ke-empat kaki kuda berada di udara namun ada juga yang berpendapat bahwa kuda hanya mengangkat kedua kakinya namun tidak keempat kakinya itu lah yang di percaya oleh Edward, bahwa saat kuda berlari ia tidak mengangkat ke-empat kakinya. Suatu taruhan yang sangat sulit di buktikan pada jaman nya.

Untuk membuktikannya, mereka memasang 11 kamera foto di sisi track balapan kuda, pada saat yang bersamaan mereka akan mengambil gambar kuda yang sedang berlari, hasilnya, kuda memang pada satu saat akan mengangakat ke-empat kakinya bersamaan pada saat berlari.

Namun ketika 11 still foto di tunjukan bersamaan, mereka melihat bahwa kuda itu sedang berlari, sebuah ilusi gerakan terlihat, Phi-Phenomenon adalah yang membohongi mata kita, perpindahan gambar berksinambungan dengan cepat membuat ilusi pada mata kita dan kestabilan dari penglihatan kita yang memaksa otak untuk melihat banyak gambar menjadi hanya 1 bentuk saja yaitu Motion Picture (gambar yang bergerak).
Hannibal Goodwin, pada tahun 1889 mempermudah cara kerja FILM yaitu membuat FILM transparent atau negative sebuah FILM yang berdasarkan Celluloid dan yang selanjutnya ia membuat negative FILM yang panjang, dimana bisa menangkap gambar secara berurutan. Kemudian berkembanglah Kamera dan Proyektor yang pertama adalah 16 frame per detik dan kemudian 18 frame perdetik lalu yang saat ini masih kita pakai adalah 24 frame perdetik.
